That’s The Way To Do It !

Despite the usual FA Cup Round 3 shocks over the weekend when lower league opposition in the shape of Oldham Athletic, Newport County & Gillingham put paid to Premier League opposition and National League club, Barnet caused an upset at Sheffield United, there is relatively little to report in terms of disorder in our matches over the weekend. This includes the fact that 6000 Rotherham United fans turned up at the Etihad to see their team mauled by City. This was of the largest away followings recorded at the home of Manchester City since the Etihad Stadium opened in 2003.

One story has emerged from the Blackpool v Arsenal match though. There has long been a series of protests over the ownership of Blackpool, which have no doubt caused issues for our colleagues Steve Needham and Dave Hargreaves a headache or two. On Saturday one man decided his protest would be to sit on top of the Arsenal team bus.

In days when Merseyside Police can’t even recognise who was stood on top of their own van, this is a major coup for Lancashire Constabulary who have not only identified the protester, but have arrested him. His sit-in caused Arsenal to seek alternative transport to the Bloomfield Road Stadium. In then the Premier League side won 3-0 to progress to Round 4 of the competition.
