Prayers for Fabrice
The world of football is in shock following the collapse of Fabrice Muamba.
The 23 year old collapsed on the pitch at White Hart Lane during Tottenham Hotspur’s sixth round FA Cup tie with Bolton Wanderers. The match was abandoned following his collapse.
Fabrice, who arrived from Zaire as a refugee at the age of ten, joined Bolton from Birmingham City several years ago and has represented England at all levels from under 16s to under 21s.
An official statement from Bolton Wanderers read:
“Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Fabrice Muamba has been admitted to the Heart Attack Centre at the London Chest Hospital where he is in a critically ill condition in intensive care.”
The thoughts of every member of the Football Safety Officers Association is with Fabrice and his family. We all pray for positive news in the coming days
Monday Update
A statement from Bolton Wanderers this morning reads:
“Fabrice Muamba’s heart condition is stable, but he remains critically ill in intensive care at the London Chest Hospital”
The FSOA continues to hope and pray that Fabrice can win his fight for life.
Signs of Hope – Tuesday Update
Fabrice remains in intensive care but continues to show signs of improvement accordingly to Bolton Wanderers. He can breathe independently without the need for a ventilator, recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately.
Hopeful signs – the world of football is united in wishing that Fabrice continues to improve in the coming days.
A Long Road Ahead – Thursday Update
Bolton Wanderers’ Club Doctor, Dr Jonathan Tobin, has revealed that Fabrice greeted him with ‘Hi Doc’ when he visited him in hospital.
“I’m glad to see the early signs of recovery have continued,” Dr Tobin told his Club’s website. “I would like to emphasise that these are the early steps in what is going to be a very long path for Fabrice.”
Dr Tobin revealed that Fabrice received three defibrilator shocks at White Hart Lane and a further twelve on the way to hospital. It was 78 minutes before Fabrice’s heart started to beat once more.
A Lucky Friday 13th April
That is surely the view of Fabrice Muamba and his family as he prepared to leave the London Chest Hospital. Fabrice thanked the medical staff who have nursed him through his near death experience as he prepared for transfer to a hospital in Cheshire with a special celebration cake.
